Credit Card...Which One(S) Is/Are For Me?

I don't know about you, but all of these rewards confuse me!!
Some offer cash, some reward points in the form of hotels, cash, etc...

And then of course, using the points...what is the best method??
I did a bit of research to see if I could come up with anything!

One website The Points Guy seems to have a good explanation on how best to use points/rewards.

Which options might work for you?
Here is a credit card guide

We love to travel although find ourselves doing less and less with kids. So for us cash rewards may work better... Who Knows!!

What do you do?

Fruit (especially in the winter) Can Be So Expensive!!

I joined in on a conversation today while picking up my daughter from Preschool. My two friends were discussing how expensive fruit is. If you want to buy a package of Blueberries, which you will of course devour in one sitting, you will spend upwards of $4 for a small package!!

So I have a few tricks up my sleeve:
-I buy frozen fruit. Trader Joes offers a great selection at great prices.
- I found a great website: http://honeyvillegrain.com/products/fruit.html that offers freeze
dried fruit at great prices! I love the blueberries. I add them to yogurt, oatmeal, muffins, etc.
-Apples and bananas can get a bit boring after awhile, so I try to jazz them up!
    -Apples with Honey
Easy baked apples with honey
-Banana with Peanut Butter and (honey)
Chocolate-Dipped Peanut Butter-Stuffed Banana Bites

-Apple chips, (stick sliced apples in oven on 180' for 5-6 hours)
Apple Chips

Happy Eating!!

Discounted Movie Tickets?? Oh My!

I am amazed how much my friends save!! Little things here and there...it goes a long way.

A great friend of mine clued us in to a great way to get discounted movie tickets! At the Bow Tie Cinema's in West Hartford, an Adult ticket cost $10.50. Big Y offers discounted tickets at $7.98 if you use either a silver coin or a silver savings card!! Of course I had to see what else Big Y was offering and the list goes on and on.

Within the past year I have been buying more things in bulk. I do not do a ton of shopping at the large bulk stores like BJ's or Costco, (I sometimes go with my girlfriend and she buys me some items), because I do not need 4 gallons of mayo. But I like to buy things like Israeli Couscous or Powdered Garlic, or Naan Bread in bulk I either store them in glass jars, or freeze them. I have found that some of the Ethnic stores have great deals if you are willing to do a bit of digging around.
I am a huge fan of Cosmos International located on Farmington Ave. They sell some items in bulk for great prices, (dates, rice, bulgar wheat).

If you like Asian food, stop over at A Dong on Shield St in West Hartford. They have tons of great items that you may find less expensive than your local grocery store.

Please share any more tips that you may know of!

LivE Wisely...Not Cheap Just Savvy

I decided to start a group that gets together every couple of weeks to discuss ways that we can all save money. I know that so many of my friends have steals and deals. Why not get together and share?

In order to keep track of what we discuss in these meetings, and to keep a running log of what I come up when I am between meetings, I decided to start this blog. Writing down on sticky notes just won't do.

One of the areas that we discussed was trying to find ways to save on shopping for clothes.

As a stay at home mom, I find myself shopping more than I need to. It can be a nice escape. Get out of your "mommy" clothes and buy something that makes you feel great. But then sometimes I question why? So that I can look nice when I pick up my daughter from preschool?? And most of the moms are dressed in gym clothes anyway!
And then when I get home, my youngest, spits up on my shoulder... why am I wearing my new "shouldn't have paid that much sweater on"??

o   Clothes
  • Try not to ever pay full price, most stores have a sale section. go there first.
  • Open Credit Card if Rewards Make Sense, some offer nice perks.
  • Buy Clothes, Keep Tags On, If you don't wear
the Item within 2 Weeks, Return It
  • Shop Your Closet
  • Have a Clothes Swap Party
  • Beware of Store Coupons, buy only if necessary
  • Shop Discount stores like Marshalls
  • Each Season, put away your clothes in bins. This way when you are ready to change seasons, everything looks new!, (also a good time to see what you do and don't need!)

I would love to hear other ways that people save on clothes!
  • And if you have a store and/or department store credit card that you like, please let us know!
